Drawn from everything Elia Saikaly witnessed and filmed across three seasons on K2, this is his personal record of the events. It is built on his own footage, witness testimony, and firsthand accounts given on the record.
The voices in this book include John Snorri, Ali Sadpara, and Sajid Sadpara themselves, preserved in recordings from the expeditions, alongside the witnesses embedded inside their camp, the surviving team members, and the families. It includes events from the winter and summer 2021 seasons not yet shared with the public.
This is his personal perspective on the savage mountain, the decisions made, the search for closure, and the cost of bearing witness: what his cameras recorded, and what he experienced firsthand.

Elia Saikaly travelled to Pakistan three times for K2: the winter expedition, the summer search and recovery, and the family’s return. Two of those seasons took him high on the mountain itself. Death Zone Witness is drawn entirely from what he filmed and lived, with the support of the Snorri and Sadpara families.
