Drawn from everything Elia Saikaly saw and filmed across three seasons on K2, this is his personal record of the events, built on his own notes and recollections.
It reflects his time with John Snorri, Ali Sadpara, and Sajid Sadpara, along with others who were present, the surviving team members, and the families, and includes moments from the winter and summer 2021 expeditions not yet shared publicly.
This is his own perspective on the savage mountain, the decisions made, the search for closure, and the cost of bearing witness.

Elia Saikaly travelled to Pakistan three times for K2: the winter expedition, the summer search and recovery, and the family’s return. Two of those seasons took him high on the mountain itself. Death Zone Witness is drawn from what he witnessed and lived, and from his own notes, with the support of the Snorri and Sadpara families.
